چکیده

Reputation mechanisms allow agents to establish trust in other agents' intentions and capabilities in the absence of direct interactions. In this paper, we are concerned with establishing trust on the basis of reputation information in open, decentralized systems of interdependent autonomous agents. We present a completely decentralized reputation mechanism to increase the accuracy of agents' assessments of other agents' capabilities and allow them to develop appropriate levels of trust in each other as providers of reliable information. Computer simulations show the reputation system's ability to track an agent's actual capabilities. 1998 ACM Computing Classification System: I.2.11 Distributed Artificial Intelligence---Intelligent agents; I.2.11 Distributed Artificial Intelligence---Multiagent systems

Privacy Preserving Reputation Systems for Decentralized Environments

Reputation systems are a key technology for making users accountable for their behavior in online communities. A reputation system computes the reputation of a user based on the feedback provided by the community. If the user draws negative feedback, it loses good reputation and may eventually be excluded from the network. It has been observed that users in a reputation system often hesitate in...

TREF: A Threat-Centric Comparison Framework for Decentralized Reputation Models

In a decentralized system, entities, also known as peers, directly interact with each other and make local autonomous decisions towards their individual goals. In an open decentralized system, there is no single centralized authority that can regulate the entry of peers in the system. As a result, the system may contain malicious peers that try to disrupt the system and carry out attacks on oth...

Enhancing Trust-Based Competitive Multi Agent Systems by Certified Reputation

Trust models play a crucial role in many application contexts involving competition like e-commerce, e-learning, etc. The above application domains deal with very-large-size sets of users with heterogeneous platforms. As a consequence, the Multi-Agent Systems paradigm appears to be one of the most promising approaches to apply in this context. Verifying the trustworthiness of a reputation feedb...

A Generic Framework for Modeling Decentralized Reputation-based Trust Models

Decentralized applications do not have a single centralized authority that can safeguard peers in the system from malicious attacks. Each peer is autonomous and must adopt measures to protect itself. Reputation-based trust management systems enable peers to develop trust relationships with each other based on their reputations. These trust relationships help a peer determine the trustworthiness...

Applying Recent Enhancements in Reputation Based Mechanisms for Promoting Trust in Mobile Communities

One inherent problem with virtual communities is how to assess the trustworthiness of unknown peers. Reputation based trust mechanisms are one means to help users decide whether to rely on a stranger or not. Using eBay’s feedback forum as an example, we show how simple reputation based trust mechanisms work. We evaluate shortcomings of these mechanisms and give an overview of reasonable enhance...
